Recognizing Low Self-Esteem

Self Esteem is how you view and feel about yourself after realizing, your strengths and your weaknesses. Your self esteem is something very valuable and precious. It should be closely monitored and cared for properly. It is up to you to make sure your self-esteem is handled with care. Individuals with normal to high self-esteem, generally view themselves as being ok. They are comfortable and confident in being themselves. They usually are not worried about what others say or think about them. On the other hand, people with low self-esteem tend to be unhappy with themselves. In fact, they may feel the need for opinions from others to confirm their identity. This is where low self-esteem can become dangerous. Low self-esteem is at the root of many problems we encounter daily. It can kill, steal and destroy your dreams, character, heart and your soul. This occurs when a person hasn’t discovered their identity.

If you don’t know who you are, someone else will give you their opinion of who you are. Unfortunately, the wrong people may be feeding you information about yourself that is false. On the other hand, people who should be helping us to discover who we are, our parents, are giving us the wrong information as well. This is usually because the parents, themselves have low self- esteem. If this is not recognized and dealt with properly, this cycle will continue to repeat itself. Low self-esteem does not discriminate. It comes in all size, shapes and colors. In fact, Low self esteem is more common than we think.
