Women, There is Hope

by Ashley Truckey

Living in this world today, I am not sure how young girls can have any self-esteem. Constantly bombarded with pictures of how a "real" woman looks, girls have distorted pictures ingrained in their minds of how they should look.

Every woman struggles with the thought, "Am I beautiful?" or "Am I lovely?" In addition, if they do not seek the answers from the right places, they will forever be searching and always become hurt, broken, and empty handed.

How can women get out of this crazy cycle? How can they break this bondage of always feeling inadequate, unattractive, and unwanted?

Some revert to buying the latest trends of clothing. Some will enclose it inside themselves and act like their lives are perfect. Some will try to find their beauty in other things, such as men, sex, alcohol, drugs, etc. All of these things will always fall short. Deep down, the woman is still asking this question that plagues her--and it's not being answered by this world. The facade, whatever it is, will seem great for a while, but it will eventually act as poison to her soul. Nothing in this fashion will ever satisfy this desire. I think the solution, however, goes back to one thing:

Our identity in Christ.

Psalm 139:13-16 says, "For You [God] formed my inward parts; you wove me in my mother's womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought the depths of the earth; Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in your book were all written The days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them." (NASB)

Ephesians 2:10 says, "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them." (NASB)

God knows his creation so well. He created every part of it and it is wonderful. Women, you are wonderfully made. He did not create anything about you that is not exactly how He wanted it. You are perfect in His sight and nothing can take that away.

Do not settle for what other women have settled for. Do not let women that have been doused with pounds of make-up and changed in photo-shop define how you are supposed to look. Do not let men define how you look either. Finding your identity in anything but Christ will always ruin you.

There is a way to feel wanted and loved--go to your Creator. He will never forsake you. He is everyone’s only hope.
